Ingredients
- 18 to 24 ounces of bread cubes (about 12-14 cups), preferably toasted or stale
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 3 cups diced sweet onion (about 2 large onions)
- 2 cups diced celery
- 6 garlic cloves, minced
- Salt and black pepper (to taste)
- 3 tablespoons chopped fresh sage
- 3 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
- 3 tablespoons chopped fresh rosemary
- 2 ½ cups chicken or vegetable stock
- 2 large eggs
- Extra fresh herbs for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the Bread: Cut bread into cubes and toast in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 15 minutes or leave it out overnight to stale.
- Preheat the Oven: Set to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick spray.
- Cook the Aromatics: In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion, celery, and garlic. Cook for 8-10 minutes until softened.
- Add Herbs & Stock: Stir in sage, parsley, and rosemary. Cook for 1 minute. Add 1 cup of stock and mix well.
- Combine with Bread: Pour the mixture over the bread cubes and toss to coat evenly.
- Mix in Eggs & Stock: In a small bowl, whisk together remaining stock and eggs. Pour over the stuffing mixture and mix well.
- Bake: Transfer stuffing to the baking dish and bake uncovered for 45-50 minutes until golden and crispy on top.
- Garnish & Serve: Sprinkle with extra fresh herbs and serve warm!
